CHEMICAL PEELING

The chemical peeling skin rejuvenation process aims to create a smoother, brighter and more aesthetic facial appearance by removing wrinkles on the face.
In addition to aging, prolonged exposure to the sun and hereditary factors, lifestyle elements such as diet, alcohol and smoking, and intense stressful living conditions can cause the face to wrinkle.
Pigmentary changes such as brown spots on the skin can occur due to birth control pills, pregnancy, genetic factors, sun rays and the effect of ultraviolet rays. Acne that appears in the first years of adolescence can leave blemishes, pits and blemishes on the skin surface.
It is possible to remove fine wrinkles, pigmentation problems and traces caused by acne on the face with renewal techniques. These techniques can be applied at any age to get rid of wrinkles and blemishes or to rejuvenate. These problems can be eliminated with skin renewal techniques (peeling).
The aim in skin renewal is to prepare the ground for the renewal of the skin by peeling the epidermis and partially the dermis layers and allowing new cells to form from below.
Chemical Peeling (Peeling with Chemical Solutions)
This method provides the renewal of the tissues that provide elasticity under the skin and collagen fibers, the expansion of their volume, and the increase in their numbers. As a result, the skin tightens and stretches. With the peeling process, the old and dead upper layers are removed, allowing a new and fresh pink skin to emerge from below. The application should be carefully selected and applied by the plastic surgeon. This treatment is a serious and effective method that is completely different from the superficial peeling applications performed in beauty salons.
Suitable Candidates for Chemical Peeling
- If the skin is wrinkled or exposed to the sun,
- If there are vertical wrinkles at the edge of the lip,
- If “crow’s feet” lines have formed around the eyes,
- If there are fine wrinkles on the eyelids,
- If brown spots are present on the skin,
- If acne or chickenpox scars are found, skin renewal techniques can be used.
Skin renewal has no specific age; it can be applied at any age. Which technique will be used depends on the skin condition and the evaluation of the plastic surgeon. Fine lines, deep wrinkles, acne scars and scars require different approaches. The selection of the method and the duration of treatment are determined by considering the patient’s recovery process. Skin renewal procedures can be performed in the same session as facelift or eye area surgery.
Treatment Process in Chemical Peeling
When the skin is peeled, it can go down to a depth of 60 microns. The basal layer, which is the third layer of the skin, is located below this limit. When it goes below 60 microns, the basal layer is damaged and the cells here can die. For this reason, it is usually not possible to completely eliminate deep acne scars and wrinkles with a single session. The treatment is planned in 2-3 sessions at certain intervals.
In the chemical peeling process, the skin layers are removed and a new and healthier skin emerges during the healing process.
Chemical Solutions Used
- AHA Solutions: These acids, which usually perform the most superficial peeling process, contain fruit acids (alpha hydroxy acid – AHA). It makes the skin fresher, healthier and more radiant. Repeated sessions correct the skin texture and reduce the signs of aging. It does not require anesthesia and can be applied without affecting social life.
- Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): It is used in the treatment of wrinkles, pigment changes and skin blemishes. It can be applied to the face, neck and other body areas exposed to the sun.
- Phenol Peeling: It is used on hard and sun-damaged skin. It reduces fine and deep wrinkles, eliminates pigment problems. However, it can lighten the skin color and is rarely preferred today due to its toxic effects.
After Chemical Peeling
After the treatment, petroleum jelly or protective ointments can be used with the doctor’s recommendation. In some cases, the skin may be covered with a bandage. Deep peeling procedures can cause redness, swelling and flaking on the skin.
After the peeling process:
- Men should not shave for a while.
- New skin begins to appear within 7-10 days.
- The pink color is preserved for the first few weeks.
- Concealer makeup can be used for 1-2 weeks.
- Exercise, bending and lying down should be avoided.
After the treatment is completed, creams containing low doses of chemicals can be used regularly with the recommendation of the plastic surgeon to make the skin renewal permanent.
