Tattoo is a permanent coloring technique that has been used for centuries for body aesthetics by creating shapes on the skin with various dyes with a needle. Some tattoos are made for traditional reasons, while others are made for decorative purposes. Depending on the location, a tattoo can sometimes be aesthetic, and sometimes it is desired to be removed because it is not wanted by the person who had it done later. Tattoos done by young people are sometimes later wanted to be removed due to the patient’s boredom or socio-cultural reasons. However, nowadays, people feel the need to have their tattoos removed or renewed over time.

Although removing tattoos is not as easy as getting them done, it has become easier to have tattoos removed with the latest laser technologies. Many methods have been tried in the past, but lasers have been more effective than all of them.

When a tattoo is made, the dye particles are pushed under the skin with a needle and trapped there by cells called macrophages around the blood vessels. It settles permanently in that area about 2-3 months after the tattoo is made. Tattooing is done either amateurishly by people who are not experts in this business or by professionals. In those made with a machine, the paint pigments are mostly placed in the upper layers of the skin, while amateur tattoos can remain in different layers of the skin because they are made irregularly by hand. How the tattoo is made is of great importance in laser tattoo removal treatment.

Is the season important for removing tattoos with laser?

It can be done in any season after being protected from sun and snow radiation. The area where the tattoo removal procedure will be started must be protected from the sun. Because the surface on which the tattoo removal procedure will be performed must be kept away from the sun. It is especially inconvenient to apply it on bronzed skin. It is appropriate to wait for the skin color to lighten. Since pigmentation increases as a result of tanning, the skin darkens and laser beams can see these darkened pigments, which can cause the skin to be affected and cause spotting and burns on the skin. For this reason, it is necessary to protect from the sun before and after the tattoo removal procedure.

Tattoos on all parts of the body can be removed by laser tattoo removal. Colors vary depending on the dye materials used. Tattoos are often made with carbon or iron oxide-based black paints. Red color is made with mercury, cadmium and iron, blue color with cobalt, green color with chromium, white color with titanium substances.

In laser tattoo treatment, various lasers with various wavelengths that vary according to the colors of the tattoo are used. But success is different in all of them. Especially the color of the tattoo is very important. While the laser easily erases some tattoo colors, repetitions may be required in some colors.

Other methods other than laser tattoo removal are not very successful. These simple methods usually leave scars. For this reason, the modern treatment of tattoos is done with lasers today. It is both more effective and easier and more hassle-free to apply.

Tattoo removal treatment is done at 6-8 week intervals. On average, 4-6 sessions are required for amateur tattoos, and more than 6 sessions of treatment may be required for professional tattoos.
